Shale Gas
Various parameters are extracted from the datasets to create fractured shale and total organic content maps. Exclusive maps have been produced for clients in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Non-exclusive maps for the Colorado Group on a regional and local area haves also been produced. The regional map provides an overview of Alberta using over 500 wells. The local map provides a detailed assessment in the NTS map sheet 83J and uses over 3,000 wells. The following maps show well locations for the regional and local map.

Coalbed Methane
Fracture permeability is essential in development of coalbed methane. Detection of fractures using digital logs can be useful in identifying production potential. A non-exclusive CBM study for the Mannville coals in the Whitecourt map sheet was completed using the same methodology employed for the shale gas study of the Colorado Group. In addition, the shale gas potential of the Mannville was investigated as a supplement to CBM. Although Coal is considered the primary target in the Mannville, gas potential in the shale may provide an important secondary source, particularly within three metres of coal seams if the shale is also fractured. Sample maps of the Whitecourt Map Sheet are provided to illustrate cbm and shale gas potential in the Mannville.
